This is something special. Our Table Top Groups are around two hours of fun (technically two hours of sub-therapeutic coaching and fun). The group itself will frequently have a focus, such as teen issues, social skills/anxiety, or confidence. It may also have a focus based on being a helpful group for similar people, such as teens, women, young men, or those that identify as LBGTQ+. During play the campaign itself while be designed in a way that is helpful to the group purpose, but will involve work on whatever topic is appropriate to the group goals. It’s a tricky balance, but that’s why our DM/GM/leaders are both clinicians and players themselves.
If you decide to join us on our quest, just pay the reservation fee below. After paying, you will get a form to fill out to make sure we get your information, and collect basic details like your familiarity with the rule sets and any groups you may identify with. Once we get that information, we compare it with our groups and potential members, and get back to you with your best option(s). If you agree, our group leader will reach out and check in with you and get you set up. Then you are good to go.
We try to keep the groups small. Although of course you may quit at any time, we hope for a commitment of about 14 weeks to see the process through. Both the work and the campaigns are designed for consistency, and we believe that to be the most helpful to the people in the group. We know life happens, no one will shame you for getting sick. Most of our groups are online, however we also love our in person groups for those that are within a reasonable range of Round Rock, Texas.
Tabletop Role Playing Game (TTRPG) groups are one of our favorites, and a main focus of ours. To get to lead one of our groups, someone must meet the following qualifications at minimum:
1) A Master’s degree in mental health
2) A license to practice as a mental health clinician (such as Licensed Professional Counselor or Marriage and Family Therapist)
3) Experience and skill as a clinician
4) Experience with a rule system, such as Pathfinder or Dungeons and Dragons
5) Passing nerdy interviews where you get quizzed on both clinician and gamer knowledge.
6) Be likable, professional, and able to make a safe space for our adventurers
7) Successfully complete the training program by Geek Theraputics and maintain good standing as a Professional Therapeutic Game Master
We think this helps ensure that our groups meet the two main requirements: Be fun, be helpful.
